Converting a Problem-Attic document to a Schoology Assessment

We recently updated Problem-Attic with a new export option for Schoology. Previously we recommended the BB7 file format, which was a fast way to create a test/quiz. Apparently support for that format is being phased out, and you may no longer see the option when you log in to Schoology. So we added a option that we’re calling “Schoology Assessment (BB9)”.

If you go to the Export tab in Problem-Attic, you will see the new option in the drop-down menu for an LMS. Briefly, download the BB9 zip file, then follow these steps for import.

  1. In Schoology, go to Resources, and choose Import in the drop-down menu.

  2. Choose the Blackboard format, and choose a collection. (You might want to create a collection before you start doing imports.) Then click Next.

  3. Click Attach File, and browse for your downloaded BB9 zip file. Then click Import.

  4. After Schoology uploads the file, you’ll see a dialog with the title of the document. Click Import again.

  5. Open a course. Click the menu called Add Materials, and choose Import from Resources.

  6. Click a collection and look for the document you just imported. Select it, and click Import.

That should do it. The assessment should show up in your materials list. You can now preview it, set options, and assign it to your students.

Important: you may not use Problem-Attic’s export options to create an “item bank” in Schoology. That would mean you’re copying the database, which is not allowed under the Terms of Service. It’s best to think of the export options in Problem-Attic as an alternative way of delivering questions to your students, not for storing them somewhere else.
