Sorting and alignment projects

Problem-Attic’s database now has more than 350,000 questions. A big challenge for us at EducAide Software (the developer of Problem-Attic) is aligning all of those questions to different curriculum frameworks and state standards. Also, we try to sort a large number of questions by topic. That’s a tall order for something like New York Regents exams, which are released three times a year for multiple subjects.

We are always looking for Problem-Attic users who can help with various sorting and alignment projects. This is for-pay work—we don’t ask for volunteers. Depending on the nature of the work and the time commitment, the pay may be hourly or a fixed amount. Many jobs are quick, a few evenings or a weekend, and others can span many weeks or a winter/summer vacation. For all the jobs, we look for teachers with technical experience (generally with computer programs and specifically with Problem-Attic) and who are well-versed in the curriculum or standards.

There is one additional type of work which has come up in the last few months: framework-building. Frameworks are a way to customize the Problem-Attic database in ways that go beyond what our company can do. Frameworks can be built for a small audience, say a group of teachers within a school district. This might mean a re-alignment of questions to a local curriculum or scope-and-sequence. Or frameworks might have a broad audience, if questions are aligned to standards, a curriculum like International Baccalaureate, or a textbook. To learn more about frameworks, see this page:

We are encouraging the development of frameworks for both small and large audiences. For the former, we’re happy to provide training and technical support. For the latter, we can sometimes go further and provide financial support, usually in the form of a stipend. (We don’t do hourly pay for this kind of work, because it’s too open-ended.) Stipends can vary from a few hundred dollars for a targeted framework to several thousand dollars for a framework that will benefit teachers widely.

If you are interested in alignment work or building a framework, please fill out the following Google Form. It’s quick, and it’s the best way to convey information about your background and what you’d like to do. We are open to proposals for a framework, and that kind of work can start at any time. For alignment, we can’t be as committal about when it will begin, but we’ll definitely stay in touch.
